Dianne Sussex - Owner and Head Chocolatier

Dianne Sussex is the hands-on owner of the House of Chocolate and was born in England to a Yorkshire mother and a Scottish father.

Even as a very young girl Dianne showed a creative nature and this led to her lifelong interest in food.  Her first foray into the food industry was at Nestle in the UK where her love of chocolate developed and from here Dianne went on to complete her City and Guilds catering qualifications in England.

She retained her love of food but entered into the telecommunications industry with a role in sales and management.  However, her love of food remained and she continued to work in restaurants at nights and weekends and successfully ran a wedding catering business with a colleague for several years where she gained experience in all areas of food management.

She met her Kiwi husband Ian in the UK where they got married and moved to New Zealand in 1990.  Dianne secured a management role with Motorola Cellular for many years and progressed to become General Manager.

With her passion for food still high on her priority list it was time to leave the corporate world and create her dream.  So in 1998 with this goal in mind she bought a small chocolate business and never looked back.

After Dianne’s parents moved to New Zealand, her Mum Noreen completed a Chocolatier Course with the Barry Callebaut Chocolate Academy in Singapore.  With this qualification in hand and Dianne’s combined knowledge of the food and catering industry coupled with her vast business experience, the House of Chocolate was born with the support of her family and some great staff.

The House of Chocolate (formerly La Maison du Chocolat) started manufacturing in 1995 and remains an exclusive handcrafted boutique chocolates manufacturer.  Together Dianne and Noreen have trained the current Chocolatiers who create beautiful chocolates for their customers every day.  Noreen has now retired but remains involved in the product development side of the business where her input and expertise is highly valued.

The House of Chocolate factory is located in Beach Haven, one of Auckland’s best hidden treasures set amongst bush walks and little known beaches, where the neighbourhood is friendly and old fashioned community values are still practiced.

Our wholesale range is available to retailers, caterers, restaurants and hotels.  Our corporate clients are taken care of on an individual basis and we can fully customise for all requirements.

Using only the finest ingredients the House of Chocolate team take pride in producing a quality range of products.  With the exceptional customer service they offer and beautiful gift packaging you can see why their customers keep coming back for more.

The House of Chocolate staff are like family and this small team operate in a friendly and approachable way.  They are open to sharing new products and invite their customers to offer comments and feedback on any of their products.

As well as the chocolate manufacuring House of Chocolate has an onsite cafe & factory shop in Beach Haven and a dessert cafe and cakery in Takapuna where you can be both sweet and savoury.
